Drive collaboration
The drive collaboration policy in Iris controls how your users collaborate on SharePoint documents when accessing them through CDM-mapped drives. You can use this policy to turn co-authoring on or off for supported Microsoft 365 apps and configure document check out preferences.
Although this policy applies to all CDM drives, its enforceability depends on a SharePoint library’s Versioning settings. CDM honors this policy only when your SharePoint library allows users to edit documents without requiring check out. The following table illustrates the impact of these settings on CDM:
SharePoint Versioning settings | CDM's behavior |
---|---|
Require check out: Yes | CDM disables co-authoring. It checks out the file when a user opens it and checks it back in when they close it or end their CDM session. |
Require check out: No | CDM honors the drive collaboration policy configured in Iris. |
As an admin, you can access the Drive collaboration policy by selecting under Policies from the menu. A default drive collaboration policy, which you can edit anytime, is automatically assigned to all the mapping groups in your organization.
You can also create up to 199 custom drive collaboration policies. When you create a custom drive collaboration policy, we assign it a key. This key allows you to assign different policies to different users within your organization. You can deploy a drive collaboration policy key to computers via Group Policy or to specific users via Group Policy or Microsoft Intune.
For more information on deploying a custom drive collaboration policy, see Custom drive collaboration policy key.
Whether you’re modifying the default policy or creating or editing a custom one, you can configure the following drive collaboration settings:
-
Policy name: Enter a name for the policy. This field is mandatory and applies to custom drive collaboration policies only.
-
The name must be between 1 and 250 characters.
-
Only one space is allowed between two characters.
-
-
Co-authoring: Choose whether users can co-author supported Microsoft Office documents. By default, Co-authoring is set to Enabled.
-
Supported apps: Select the Microsoft Office apps for which you want to enable co-authoring. By default, co-authoring is enabled for all Microsoft Office apps. If you’ve enabled co-authoring, ensure at least one Microsoft Office app is selected.
For more information on using co-authoring with CDM, see Co-author with Cloud Drive Mapper (CDM).
Co-authoring can be enabled but still unavailable if the user signed into CDM does not match the user signed into Microsoft Office.
-
Enable check out/check in: Choose whether CDM automatically checks out and checks in files when co-authoring is turned off or the file type does not support co-authoring. By default, Enable check out/check in is set to Auto.
