Dynamic: SharePoint

A Dynamic: SharePoint drive allows you to map all your SharePoint sites, subsites, document libraries, and folders within document libraries to a single drive letter. What makes this drive so powerful is its ease of implementation. You only need to name it and assign it a drive letter. CDM handles the rest dynamically.

When you log into your Windows Desktop/VDI, CDM sends a request to Microsoft 365 for a list of all the SharePoint sites, subsites, and document libraries you are a member of and maps these to your Dynamic: SharePoint drive. While mapping your SharePoint environment, CDM also ensures that it retains its structure and hierarchy.

A Dynamic: SharePoint drive helps you simplify mapping the complexity of your SharePoint environment to CDM and avoid assigning too many drive letters to multiple sites and document libraries.

When you map your SharePoint sites to a single drive letter via the Dynamic: SharePoint drive, you’ll notice that all of your sites are on the root of the drive (the highest level of the drive’s directory structure). For example, let’s assume you have 2 SharePoint sites mapped to a Dynamic: SharePoint drive (SharePoint site 1 and SharePoint site 2). Each SharePoint site has a subsite (Subsite 1 and Subsite 2). Within your Dynamic: SharePoint drive, both the SharePoint sites and subsites will be available at the root of the drive. Document libraries within these sites and subsites will appear as folders under their respective site. To access these document libraries, you’ll need to click on the site folder at the root.

SharePoint site 1\Document library

Subsite 1\Document library

SharePoint site 2\Document library

Subsite 2\Document library

CDM caches a list of your SharePoint sites, subsites, document libraries, and folders within document libraries mapped to a Dynamic: SharePoint drive. It only does this to avoid overburdening Microsoft services, which can adversely impact the performance of your Microsoft 365 tenancy. By default, CDM refreshes this list every 3 hours, meaning that changes to the SharePoint sites you are a member of will not reflect in your Dynamic: SharePoint drive in real time.

If it is imperative that you see these changes reflected in your Dynamic: SharePoint drive immediately, consider exiting CDM and signing in again. You can change this refresh interval by contacting our support team. However, as mentioned earlier, this may impact the performance of your tenancy.

Because the Dynamic: SharePoint drive uses the Microsoft SharePoint Rest API instead of Microsoft Graph, in addition to the CDM cache, changes to SharePoint sites you are a member of may be subject to caching within the Microsoft system. In our experience, this process usually takes 60 minutes. However, according to Microsoft, this can take up to 24 hours.
