Creating a legacy mapping group

Mapping groups enable you to configure all drives that CDM will map. In Iris, you can create up to 199 mapping groups in total. To create a legacy mapping group, you must first create a custom mapping group and then convert it into a legacy mapping group. Legacy mapping groups support the following drive types:

  • Direct: OneDrive

  • Direct: SharePoint document library

  • Dynamic: OneDrive shortcuts

  • Dynamic: SharePoint

  • Dynamic: Microsoft Teams

We’ve designed custom mapping groups in Iris for CDM (v3). Therefore, not all settings available when creating a custom mapping group will apply once you convert it to a legacy mapping group. Of all the available mapping group and drive settings in Iris, only the following apply to legacy mapping groups:

Setting Supported by
Type All supported drive types
Label All supported drive types
Letter All supported drive types
SharePoint document library URL Direct: SharePoint Document Library
SharePoint site URL Direct: SharePoint Site

To create a legacy mapping group:

  1. Select Configure mapping groups from the Dashboard.

  2. Select the Custom mapping groups tab.

  3. Select Create mapping group to create a new custom mapping group or then Duplicate default mapping group.

Selecting Duplicate default mapping group applies your default mapping group configuration to the custom mapping group you’re creating. You can still add new drives, edit them, or delete existing drives from the duplicated configuration.

  1. Enter a name for the new mapping group. If you’ve selected Duplicate default mapping group in the previous step, go to step 7. Otherwise, go to step 5.

Naming a custom mapping group is mandatory. You can use the same name for multiple custom mapping groups, but we don’t recommend it.

  2. Map your first drive by selecting the drive type, specifying a label, and assigning it a drive letter.

  1. Optionally, select Add drive to add additional drives to the mapping group. While doing so, keep the following rules in mind:

    • You can only map one drive letter to a Direct: OneDrive.

    • You can map multiple drive letters to a Direct: SharePoint document library.

    • You can only have one of each dynamic drive type within a custom mapping group.

  1. Select Save to create the mapping group.

  1. Select then Make legacy from the shortcut menu adjacent to its name on the Mapping groups page.

Once converted, the mapping group will no longer appear under Custom mapping groups. Instead, it will move to the Legacy mapping groups page, which you can access via the CDM menu.
