Creating a folder redirection policy

As an admin, you can create folder redirection policies in Iris by navigating to one of the following sections from the menu:

  • Mapping groups

  • Folder redirection

Before creating folder redirection policies, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • Folder redirection applies exclusively to Direct: OneDrive mappings.

  • Folder redirection policies can be assigned via Iris or deployed via Group Policy or Microsoft Intune.

  • While you can assign the same folder redirection policy to a Dynamic: OneDrive in multiple mapping groups, a Direct: OneDrive can only have one folder redirection policy at a time.

  • You can create up to 200 custom folder redirection policies for your tenancy.

When creating a new policy, specify the following settings:

  • Policy name: Enter a name for the policy. This field is mandatory.

    • The name must be between 1 and 250 characters.

    • Only one space is allowed between two characters.

    • You can't include blank spaces before the first character or after the last character of the policy name.

  • Base folder: Optionally, specify a base folder name that will act as the parent directory for all redirected folders. If left blank, CDM will redirect folders to the root of the drive.

    • The name can't exceed 64 characters.

    • Only one space is allowed between two characters.

    • You can't include blank spaces before the first character or after the last character of the base folder name.

    • You can use the following special characters: ` ! @ # $ % ^ & ( ) _ – + = { [ } ] ; ‘ ,

    • You can't use the following special characters: " \ * : < > ? / | . ~

  • Folders: Choose which Windows profile folders (Documents, Desktop, and the rest) to redirect. You must select at least one folder to create the policy.

  • Assign folder names: Assign a name to each selected folder. These names don't have to match the original folder names.

    • The name can't exceed 64 characters.

    • Only one space is allowed between two characters.

    • You can't include blank spaces before the first character or after the last character of the folder name.

    • You can use the following special characters: ` ! @ # $ % ^ & ( ) _ – + = { [ } ] ; ‘ ,

    • You can’t use the following special characters: " \ * : < > ? / | . ~

  • Redirect to root: Select this checkbox if you want to redirect the contents of the Documents folder to the root of your Direct: OneDrive mapping.

Once you’ve specified these settings, save the policy:

  • If the policy is created from the Mapping groups page, it will be immediately assigned to the selected mapping.

  • If the policy is created from the Folder redirection policies page, it will be added to the list of folder redirection policies without being assigned to a mapping.

Folder redirection policies created from the Folder redirection policies page can be applied in two ways:

  • You can assign it to a Direct: OneDrive from the Mapping groups page (recommended).

  • You can deploy it via Group Policy or Microsoft Intune. For more information, please see the Folder redirection policy key section.

CDM can only redirect Windows profile folders to your OneDrive for Business account if they are in their default Windows location: C:\Users\UserName. CDM won't perform the redirection as per the assigned policy if they aren't.
