How Cloud Drive Mapper (CDM) handles changes to redirected folders
CDM automatically manages changes made to redirected folders, whether those changes come from you or other applications attempting to redirect the same folders. CDM addresses these scenarios in the following ways:
| Scenario | CDM behavior |
|---|---|
| Locally renamed, moved, or deleted | CDM will prevent you from renaming, moving, or deleting redirected folders on your local system. |
| Renamed, moved, or deleted in the OneDrive web app | CDM will recreate the redirected folder during the next sync. However, the contents of that folder will not be restored. |
| Folder redirection policy modified by an admin in Iris | When CDM starts, it applies any changes an admin has made to the folder redirection policy in Iris since the last session. For example, if an admin renames a folder in the policy, CDM will create a new path for it the next time it starts. |
| Conflicts with other folder redirection applications |
If you’ve enabled folder redirection for CDM, we strongly recommend not using it alongside other applications that support it, as this can cause data duplication or loss. This includes, and is not limited to, the OneDrive sync client. If you’re switching from another application that supports folder redirection to CDM, please ensure you’ve disabled it for that application, restarted the application to allow the change to take effect, and then enabled it for CDM. Similarly, if you’ve disabled folder redirection for CDM and intend to replace it with another application, you must restart CDM for the change to take effect before enabling it in the other application to avoid data duplication or loss. |
