Direct drives
A direct drive is a drive mapped to a single cloud location. Cloud Drive Mapper (CDM) supports the following direct drive mappings:
-
Direct: SharePoint document library (including folders within a document library)
Dynamic drives
Dynamic drives pull together multiple cloud locations and populate them into a single view while only taking up a single drive letter on your computer. This makes administration very simple, as you don't need to create lots of individually targeted direct drives for all your different groups of users. Dynamic drives show users what is relevant to them, whether they're the CEO or an intern. They simplify your file and folder search by providing a single location where everything is sorted alphabetically.
CDM supports the following dynamic drive mappings:
Folder redirection
Folder redirection is the process of silently re-routing your Windows profile folders such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, and so on. While these folders still appear to be local to you and function as such, in the background, they are re-routed somewhere else (traditionally to network storage). This process enables you to log on to any computer on the network and see your content in the profile folders.
CDM also supports folder redirection. However, rather than re-rerouting a user's profile folders to network storage, CDM redirects these folders to the user's OneDrive for Business account. This means that you have access to your profile folders even when you are not on your local network, and the data roams with you on both network-managed and cloud-managed devices.
