Cloud Drive Mapper (CDM) drives and features

The following video describes CDM's key features and capabilities so that you can better understand their potential benefits.

Supported drive types

CDM allows you to map a drive to a single cloud location, known as direct drive mapping, or pull together multiple cloud locations and populate them into a single view; this is what we call dynamic drive mapping.

CDM supports the following direct and dynamic drives:

Folder redirection

CDM also supports folder redirection. However, rather than re-rerouting your profile folders to network storage, CDM redirects these folders to your OneDrive for Business account. This means you have access to your profile folders even when you are not on your local network, and the data roams with you on both network-managed and cloud-managed devices.

In CDM, folder redirection applies exclusively to Direct: OneDrive mappings. You can assign a folder redirection policy to your Direct: OneDrive mapping via Iris or deploy it via Group Policy or Microsoft Intune. For more information about folder redirection, see Folder redirection.

Policies

In CDM V3, we've also implemented policies that allow you to control how CDM behaves in your IT environment. Currently, these include the bandwidth and user interface policies. The bandwidth policy allows you to define how often CDM requests drive updates from Microsoft 365. The user interface policy allows you to customize various aspects of the CDM client, such as whether users can disable CDM notifications.
